A NY and VA-licensed and ASHA-certified multilingual (Spanish, Italian, German, American Sign Language, English) speech-language pathologist, Georgia Duan has clinical experience from birth through the lifespan in homecare, school-based and medical settings, with emphasis on parent/caregiver involvement, teaching bilingual functional-academic communication skills, and bringing each individual to his/her potential. Specialties include aural habilitation, apraxia, emergent literacy and self-advocacy for individuals who are Deaf/Hard-of-Hearing.

Hailed as “a winning combination of vocal finesse and physical flair” (San Francisco Weekly), soprano Georgia Duan is a talented artist with a keen interest in Italian and German repertoire. She sang the Königin der Nacht (Die Zauberflöte) with the New York Opera Studio sharing the stage with Nico Castel and performed Olympia (Les contes d’Hoffmann) at San Francisco Parlor Opera.

She made her international debut in Germany as the Königin der Nacht with the Mittelsächsisches Theater Freiberg and with Mexico City’s Pro Ópera as Giulia in Rossini’s La scala di seta. Georgia also sang Zerbinetta from the original 1912 version of Richard Strauss’ Ariadne auf Naxos in San Francisco and made her company debut as Mabel (Pirates of Penzance) with Opera San Luis Obispo. 

Georgia has performed roles in the traditional operatic vein, including Miss Silberklang (Der Schauspieldirektor), Gretel (Hänsel and Gretel) and Bastienne (Bastien and Bastienne). She also enjoys twentieth-century American opera, and has sung John Duke’s Pernille/Captain Lovelock (Captain Lovelock) and Paul Siskind’s Nora (The Sailor-Boy and the Falcon). She joined choirs from Stanford University to sing Orff’s Carmina Burana at the Beijing Opera House and Shanghai Arts Center. While at Stanford, Georgia performed before an audience of over 2,000 spectators at Frost Amphitheater during a simulcast of Rigoletto from the San Francisco Opera. 

Georgia studied under the tutelage of conductor Paolo Vaglieri while enrolled at the Accademia Internazionale della Musica in Milan, with scholarships from Santa Clara County, Il Cenacolo, the Institute for the International Education of Students and Stanford University. Georgia has been certified with Italian ACTFL-Advanced proficiency and German CEFR-C1 proficiency. She attended masterclasses with Kammersängerin Reri Grist in Rostock and trained with Kammersängerin Brigitte Eisenfeld in Berlin.

Georgia is equally at home in concert and oratorio repertoire. She was featured in Fauré’s Requiem and Mendelssohn’s Weihnachtskantate “Vom Himmel hoch” with the Kantatenchor Wannsee in Berlin. She has sung as a soloist with ensembles in the San Francisco Bay Area, in works both sacred and profane: the American premiere of Giancarlo Aquilanti’s rescoring of Prima Missa: A Celebration of Life; Richard Strauss’ Deutsche Motette with the Grammy-nominated Pacific Mozart Ensemble; the American premiere of Chinary Ung’s duet from Rising Light in the inaugural Pan-Asian Music Festival at Stanford; Haydn’s Schöpfungsmesse and Missa brevis St. Johannis de Deo; Rutter’s Requiem; Villa-Lobos’ Bachianas Brasileiras No. 5; Bach’s St. John Passion; Mozart’s Requiem; Britten’s A Ceremony of Carols. Georgia can be heard with the Stanford Chamber Chorale on the ARSIS Audio label in Kirke Mechem: Seven Joys of Christmas & Beyond and in Aquilanti’s Prima Missa.

Honors and awards have been graciously and generously granted by The American Prize, the Internationaler Gesangswettbewerb “Klassik Mania” in Vienna, the Y.E.S. Foundation for the Arts, the Orange County Performing Arts Center, the Centro Studi Italiani Concorso Internazionale di Canto in Urbania, NATS, Mu Phi Epsilon and the Henry & Maria Holt Memorial Scholarship.
